Before You Order: OR Accessory Compatibility Checklist

Healthcare checklist and digital verification process performed by medical professional using tablet with copy space.

At receiving, at installation, or in the OR suite when the accessory doesn’t perform as expected—these are the points where unresolved compatibility questions become delays, returns, and additional procurement cycles. This checklist surfaces the questions that most commonly create those outcomes before the purchase order is submitted.

CMI’s surgical table accessories, NekSpine, and UM3 Universal Modular Mount are radiolucent carbon fiber products designed for imaging-adjacent surgical environments. CMI’s team is available through our contact page to address compatibility questions before you place a purchase order.

Table Compatibility

  • What is the surgical table manufacturer and model number in your OR suite?
  • What rail standard does your table use? Confirm with your table documentation or biomedical engineering team, but standards vary by model and generation.
  • Does the accessory’s rail clamp match your table’s rail standard? Confirm with the accessory manufacturer before ordering.
  • Is the accessory compatible with your table’s weight and load distribution specifications?
  • If your OR suite has multiple table models, have you confirmed compatibility with all tables where the accessory will be used?

Imaging Compatibility

  • What imaging modality will be used with this accessory in place? (Fluoroscopy / CT / MRI / plain film/combination)
  • Has the manufacturer confirmed the accessory is appropriate for the specific modality in use?
  • Does the accessory’s geometry keep the primary beam path clear for the imaging angles used in your intended procedures?
  • Does the rail clamp or mounting hardware introduce artifact in the imaging field? Confirm with the manufacturer for your specific imaging setup.

Load and Structural Adequacy

  • What is the manufacturer’s rated load capacity for this accessory?
  • Does the rated load capacity cover your patient population in the intended use configuration?
  • Has the accessory’s structural adequacy been confirmed for the specific positioning configuration it will be used in, not only the standard use case?

Sterilization and Infection Control

  • What sterilization method does your facility use for OR accessories? (Steam autoclave / EtO / H2O2 vapor / other)
  • Is the accessory confirmed compatible with your facility’s sterilization method?
  • How many sterilization cycles has the accessory been validated for? Does that cycle count align with your expected use frequency?
  • What is the manufacturer’s recommended inspection protocol between sterilization cycles?

Regulatory and Documentation

  • Is this accessory intended for use as part of an FDA-cleared medical device system? If so, is the accessory confirmed appropriate for use with that specific cleared system? See FDA medical device regulatory requirements for reference.
  • Does your facility’s value analysis committee or purchasing committee require 510(k) clearance documentation for this accessory category?

Ordering and Logistics

  • What is the manufacturer’s lead time for this accessory?
  • Is the accessory available through your contracted GPO or distributor, or does it require a direct purchase order?
  • What is the return or exchange policy if the accessory does not meet compatibility requirements after delivery?

A compatibility check before ordering can reduce avoidable delays and ensure the accessory fits your facility’s equipment, imaging environment, reprocessing procedures, and intended use. Confirm the details with your surgical team, biomedical engineering or infection control staff, and the manufacturer as needed before submitting a purchase order.
